Diesel's SS25 Show Highlights Circular Fashion with Denim Scrap Runway and Distressed Designs

Diesel’s SS25 runway was made from 15 tonnes of denim scraps, emphasizing sustainability and circular fashion. Creative director Glenn Martens focused on distressing techniques and upcycled materials, with shredded denim and devoré jacquard fabrics dominating the collection. The show’s designs pushed the boundaries of denim, integrating innovation with Diesel’s iconic aesthetic. Martens reinforced the message that Diesel is synonymous with denim and forward-thinking fashion.

The Diesel SS25 runway show made a bold statement, both in terms of design and sustainability. Creative director Glenn Martens centered the show around Diesel’s signature fabric, denim, by using fifteen tonnes of denim scraps to create the runway itself. These scraps were not merely decorative; they underscored Diesel’s commitment to circularity and environmental consciousness. Martens emphasized the beauty of waste, describing how Diesel pushes the boundaries of both design innovation and sustainable production, integrating denim waste and distressing into the collection as a means of creative disruption.

The theme of regeneration was prevalent throughout the collection, which featured over 70 looks. Distressing was a key element, with fringing hanging from slip dresses, distressed jeans making a strong statement, and garments crafted in a devoré jacquard technique, where cotton was burnt away to reveal tulle beneath. Diesel also utilized leftover materials creatively, such as coats made entirely from spools of denim thread. Other pieces included jersey tanks printed with classic Prince of Wales checks, while Diesel's archival bandana prints appeared knotted across various garments.

Martens played with form-fitting silhouettes, using techniques like shredding and embossing to elevate the designs. Some pieces appeared to have the impression of being overloaded with necklaces, while double loom knits hugged the body closely, adding texture and dimension to the looks. The collection fused innovation with classic Diesel aesthetics, pushing the boundaries of what denim can represent in fashion.

As models took to the runway for the finale, with eerie contact lenses enhancing the overall mood, Diesel’s SS25 message was clear: denim is at the heart of the brand, and through creative reuse and cutting-edge design, Diesel continues to define and disrupt fashion’s future. The show's opening soundtrack, an AI voice repeating “Diesel is Denim,” further solidified this message. Through Martens’ vision, Diesel not only celebrated its iconic fabric but also demonstrated the potential of waste to inspire innovation, proving that sustainability and high fashion can coexist.
