Beabadoobee Faces Karaoke Nightmare, Embraces Heritage in Reflective New Album

Beabadoobee confronts her fears in a nerve-wracking karaoke session in Japan and reflects on her Filipino heritage in her introspective new album, This Is How Tomorrow Moves, produced by Rick Rubin.

Beabadoobee recently discovered a crowd she's afraid to perform for during a trip to Japan with her boyfriend Jake Erland, where they celebrated their birthdays. They booked an intimidating karaoke spot with an open stage and a room full of spectators. Singing The Cure's "Just Like Heaven" was a nerve-wracking experience that still gives her nightmares, though she sounded angelic as always.

On the day of the U.K. General Election, Bea welcomed a visitor into her North London home, filled with eclectic treasures inherited from her beloved lola. Despite her rising fame, Bea cherishes her Filipino heritage and reflects on her journey, including being kicked out of an all-girl Catholic school for minor infractions.

Bea's third studio album, This Is How Tomorrow Moves, produced by Rick Rubin, is set for release on August 16. This album features introspective songwriting, focusing on personal growth and accountability. Bea discusses the pivotal moments that shaped her, such as a major breakup and falling in love again. She reveals her struggles with tour life, including unhealthy habits and the challenge of performing on large stages. Touring with Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour was a significant experience, though she felt numb and detached on stage.

Despite the pressures of fame, Bea is ready to reconnect with her fans and perform new music. She now approaches touring with a healthier mindset, including staying sober and training through ballet. Her dream is to perform in Iloilo City, Philippines, close to her heart. Bea embraces her Filipino identity and reflects on the challenges of growing up with societal pressures to conform to Western beauty standards. She proudly acknowledges her tanned skin and celebrates her cultural roots.

Her journey includes overcoming obstacles, such as her experience with racism in school and her determination to prove her worth. Throughout her journey, Bea remains grounded, valuing the slow and steady growth of her career. She enjoys a level of fame that allows her to live her life with a degree of normalcy. As she prepares for her upcoming tours, Bea is excited to share new music and connect with her audience on a deeper level.
