Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau finally step into spotlight

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have confirmed their long-rumored romance with intimate photos from Japan. After months of discreet outings, diplomatic surprises, and escalating speculation, the pair has stepped into the public eye and is already planning the holidays together.

Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau have stopped pretending there’s nothing to see. After months of whisper-level speculation, grainy sightings, and the now-infamous “surprise diplomatic cameo,” the singer and the former Canadian prime minister made their romance Instagram-official. The reveal came wrapped in a carousel of photos and videos from Perry’s stop in Japan on her Lifetimes Tour—a soft-focus glimpse into a relationship that has quietly expanded since mid-year.

“Tokyo times on tour and more,” she captioned the post on Saturday, December 6. The “more” did a lot of heavy lifting. One selfie shows the pair cheek-to-cheek under Japan’s autumn light, radiating the kind of ease you can’t PR-engineer. Another clip, filmed over dinner, captures the duo exchanging those unmistakable new-love glances—the ones that say the soft launch phase is officially over.

The digital debut follows months of strategic under-the-radar movement. According to People, Trudeau had been “courting” Perry since July, during their early outings in Montreal. He even flew to California to see her between tour dates. “They have an easy chemistry. She finds him attractive. He’s been very respectful,” a source told the outlet—a diplomatic way of saying the vibe was immediate.

How the romance unfolded
Rumors first erupted after Perry and Trudeau were spotted dining together in Montreal. Perry had recently split from former fiancé Orlando Bloom in June; they continue to co-parent their daughter, five-year-old Daisy Dove. Trudeau had separated from Sophie Grégoire in 2023 after 18 years of marriage. The timing raised eyebrows, but it also set the stage for two public figures navigating fresh territory.

Their sightings continued sporadically throughout the summer, surfacing just often enough to keep the rumor mill alive as Perry globe-hopped for her tour. By September, insiders claimed they had agreed to keep things “much more private,” even as their interest in each other deepened.

Then came October: Perry’s 41st birthday. A cabaret night at Crazy Horse. Hand-holding. Paparazzi flashbulbs. Smiles that gave everything away.

But the moment the romance slipped fully into the international arena was their joint visit to Japan. During a brief break in Perry’s tour schedule, the couple met with former Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida and his wife, Yuko, on December 3. Fans were stunned; pop-star-meets-policy-meeting energy is not exactly common Instagram material.

Kishida posted about the lunch on X, highlighting past diplomatic collaboration and celebrating the unexpected reunion. Trudeau replied with equal warmth: “Katy and I were delighted… Thank you, Fumio, for your continued commitment to a better future for all.”

Sources close to the couple say they’re already planning to spend the holidays together. Perry wraps nearly eight months on the road with a final show in Abu Dhabi on December 7—closing the tour, and apparently, opening a very public new chapter.
